Zakat on Online Portfolios – Ramadan 2026

Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam. Each year, eligible Muslims donate a portion of their wealth to those in need, fulfilling their religious obligation. To learn more about Zakat, head to the National Zakat Foundation website.

Our CEO, Faizal Karbani, also recently hosted a webinar with National Zakat Foundation CEO Dr Sohail Hanif, discussing the significance and impact on Zakat below:

We have reviewed the investments held in all seven investment portfolios offered through the Simplified Advice Online service, and accordingly calculated the Zakat percentages for each portfolio. We have sought advice from our Sharia advisers, namely Shariyah Review Bureau, on matters related to Zakat, including calculation methodology.

Here, we have compiled the necessary information and FAQs to assist you in calculating your Zakat.

Zakat Calculation
  • What is the Zakat percentage for my investment portfolio?

The Zakat percentage is based on the investment allocation for each portfolio as at 1st Ramadan (18th February 2026).

The Zakat ratio applicable on the complete value of each portfolio is as follows:

Investment portfolio   Zakat percentage to apply on your overall account value
Defensive  1.81%
Conservative  1.63%
Cautious  1.47%
Balanced  1.33%
Balanced Growth  1.16%
Growth  1.05%
Progressive Growth  0.91%
  • How do I know which investment portfolio I am invested in?

You can log into your account to find the investment portfolio for each account you have with us. Through the online system, you can log in and view your accounts at any time. You can log in to your account here: https://simplyethical.fundment.com/fng/login/

After logging in, select the account you wish to find the portfolio for, then click on Goals. Your portfolio will be visible under “Investment Strategy”.

If you do not have your log-in details or are experiencing issues accessing your account, please contact our client services team at info@simplyethical.com

  • A quick example of how to calculate your Zakat

When you enter your dashboard after signing in, click on “Documents” in the top right-hand corner of your screen, and then “Reports”.

In the dropdown menu, select “Account Statement” under Report Type and “Custom” under Timeframe. This will then allow you to select a start and end date, both of which would be your Zakat date. For example, if your Zakat date is 1st Ramadan (18/2/2026), both the start and end dates would be 18/2/2026. Click generate report and your account statement will be opened.

When you open your account statement, for each account there will be a table, as shown below, that lists your investments as at your selected date.

You will need the total portfolio value (circled in green above) and your investment portfolio, which in this example is Balanced.

Given this is a Balanced portfolio valued at £6,092.70, multiply this by 1.33% as stated in the table above.

The Zakat will amount to £81.03.

Please note, the Zakat percentage can vary based on the investment portfolio you have for each account.
